Caleb's Story

Caleb Christopher Langdon came into this world on June 3, 2005. He was our 3rd and last child. A very beautiful & healthy boy at 7 lbs. and 19 & 1/2 in. He was healthy, active and alert and playful baby, who met ALL of his developmental milestones (crawling, walking, talking, etc.)

My heart just melted when he said his first word at 7 months, "Mama". He went to all his well-baby appointments & got all the shots on the extremely inflated vaccine schedule. I thought that just like with my older 2 children, everything would be fine. Something happened to Caleb after he had shots at around 2 yrs old.

He stopped talking to us--instead only talking what I can only describe as "jibber-jabber" , and he seemed to only want to play alone (looking back now, I can see that he wasn't really playing at all--just lining up toys in perfect formations), he stopped saying "mama" & "daddy" (when he wanted something, he just brought it to us), one word he would say was "milk" (and I gave it to him, thinking I was being a good Mom--milk is good for toddlers, right....), he would have a lot of what I thought was temper tantrums for seemingly no reason at all, constant teeth grinding (made my skin crawl), would wake up on average 5-8 times a night crying his heart out, barely made any eye contact at all--didn't even acknowledge his older brother & sister, absolutely could not sit still at all-constant motion, wouldn't hardly eat anything but pureed baby food, and a very disturbing one was his extreme high tolerance for pain--would not cry unless he was VERY hurt.

I didn't know what autism was...I had heard the word, but didn't know what it was. In my mind I thought, "well, he doesn't want to play with other kids--he is just a introverted personality...., well, he's not talking yet because kids do things at different rates...., he lines up things so perfectly, he is just gonna be a perfectionist...." I was reassured by my pediatrician that he was fine, nothing to worry about, boys just do things differently sometimes, later (talking).

I went with what my pediatrician was saying until Caleb's 3rd birthday--at that point my gut was telling me something was not right. I started googling---speech delays, food texture issues, teeth grinding, and the whole list of symptoms he was having.......BOOM! It was like a bomb went off in my brain---AUTISM! Everything I put in the computer to search came back to one answer--AUTISM. It hit me right between the eyes-like a ton of bricks. How could this happen to my baby?? Why would this happen to my sweet baby boy?? I cried for days----I just had a hard time wrapping my brain around that word-AUTISM.

I finally got myself together, because I told myself, "You are not helping Caleb--get it together and learn everything you can about this neurological condition--and give it to God and let him lead the way". That was so hard-giving it to God. I think we think in our minds that we can handle things all by ourselves--but it's simply not true. We need Him to guide us and bring us to the right places and to the right people. Well--we made an appointment with our pediatrician to talk to him about our concerns. Bless his heart, he really didn't think Caleb had it, but he still sent us to Vanderbilt for testing. We couldn't get Caleb an appointment there until Oct. 31st, 2008. I could not sit still and do nothing...I just couldn't.

I started reading EVERY book the library had on autism, researching every natural herbal medicine and supplements I read about ( A HUGE thank you to my Daddy on this one--he researched tirelessly on the natural-God Given herbal products too) We got a regimen ready for Caleb. These natural medicines have NO SIDE EFFECTS and are things the body needs. While waiting to get into Vandy this is what I did with Caleb:

*1. Gluten Free/Casein Free diet (wheat-free/dairy free)
I found out he had what is called "leaky gut" (I think the mmr vaccine is the culprit) Dairy products were hurting his tummy--and causing the meltdowns that I thought were "temper tantrums" When I took the dairy out of his diet, he started sleeping ALL NITE. He also stopped having so many meltdowns. Bless his heart, he was in pain. Teeth grinding stopped. He showed no reaction to wheat.

*2. Started giving him a product called Heavy Metal Detox (purchased from Whole Foods) as I began to figure out he was vaccine injured and his body couldn't rid itself of the toxins (preservatives in the vaccines) and they were going to his brain and settling, causing autism. website on this particular product is www.naturalpathsilverwings.com It is taken 3 times a day (dose depends on weight) His b.m. changed within a few days (the yucky toxins were coming out of his body) I mixed it in apple juice which is a natural chelator (natural heavy metal remover)

*3. I gave him Poly Vi Sol (infant and toddler liquid multivitamin) 1 dropper full a day. I mixed it in grape juice (good for masking the taste of things) can be bought anywhere, made by Enfamil. I found it cheapest at Walmart.
*4. He started taking Alpha Lipoic Acid---100 mg a day--dump the capsule in grape juice. This was his dosage at age 3 and now 4. It may be different if your child is older--just check the label ( I buy this one at GNC--unlike a lot of places they guarantee their products purity and that is very important. Whole Foods does as well)

** Within a month of this regimen--he said his first sentence, and what a gift from God it was! He grabbed my face in his hands and said, "I love you" I cried tears of happiness and joy. God was showing me we were going in the right direction"!!

Well, October 31st, 2008 finally came--and just like we knew- it was confirmed...Caleb had autism. The developmental pediatrician we took him to at Vandy could not believe it when we told her how much his symptoms had changed with this natural regimen. She encouraged us to keep on giving them to him!! YAY!! God was leading us to the right info and the right people.

Fast forward to today--Caleb's language skills are increasing daily , he loves playing with other kids now, he is beginning to initiate conversations, he is understanding so many things, eating more different foods...HE WILL BE OKAY!! I have now stopped the Heavy Metal Detox and the Alpha Lipoic Acid (after about a year). I am continuing Poly Vi Sol, and giving him:
***Glutathione--100 mg a day (this is an enzyme the body needs that people with autism do not produce) I put it in a little caffeine free coke or something to dissolve it first.
***L-Glutamine-250 mg every other day (mixed in a drink)
***Liquid Multi Colloidal Minerals- 1 teaspoon daily mixed in a drink
(I buy these 3 products at GNC)

***** I am not a doctor--just a Mom that does A LOT of research on these things--all these items, if you give them to your child, dosage depends on age & weight(check the bottle) * Caleb is 4, and weighs 41 lbs. and these are his dosages.

If you try these things and they help--give ALL THANKS and GLORY to GOD

I hope getting Caleb's story out can help people to understand this condition a little better and for people who have kids affected by autism--maybe you can use the natural regimen and help your child too. God Bless You All and please feel free to contact me anytime on here for more questions and FORUM.

The newest statistics on autism released last month by www.thoughtfulhouse.com are alarming. 1 in every 91 children aged 3-17 will be diagnosed and 1 in every 57 BOYS will be diagnosed. That is A LOT of children. Let's work together and help our children--they are the future!!!!!!!!
